US Premiere of Labayen’s Le Sacre du Printemps & Other Works
with guest choreographers Malu Rivera Peoples & WSPA dancers, Daiane Lopes da Silva, and Victor Talledos
Dance Mission Theater March 15, 16 @ 8pm & 17 @ 7pm, 2013

US premiere of Enrico Labayen’s “Le Sacre du Printemps”, originally set on Manila-based Labayen Dance/Asia. The work explores a young man’s sexual awakening to the music by Igor Stravinsky and an encore performance of the critically acclaimed “Awit ng Pag-Ibig” (Love Songs) set to Philippine folk songs, the work is a commentary on domestic violence and abuse against women. Critics World-SF described the work as “very powerful and moving…expressing a range of emotions through intricate choreography, which is impressive.

The concert is proud to present the choreography of Philippine-born choreographer/director Malu Rivera-Peoples, one of the “Top 100 Most Influential Filipina Women in the U.S.” by the Filipina Women's Network. Her work will be performed by Westlake School of Performing Arts dancers, a multi-award winning and nationally recognized performance training center based in the Bay Area headed by Ms. Rivera-Peoples.*

Also on the program is a work by Brazilian-born choreographer/dance artist Daiane Lopes da Silva's “Chrysalis” and Mexican ecclectic dancemaker/dancer Victor Talledos' “Desolation”.

*Performing only on Friday @ 8pm and Sunday @ 7pm.
